Town Houses

I'm just curious about the logging going on along rt. 993. From what I hear...there are plans to put townhouses there?

Now that the police car is "broken in"...why doesn't it sit in the school zone when the middle school lights are flashing?

Why are people being removed from councils (such as the rec board) for no reason...especially when the people being removed are well known to be the most productive?]

Open Letter to the Mayor.

That certainly is interesting. I got a buddy that lives in town there and he heard that they were clear cutting that and going to put townhouses there. He said there was a demand for more types of that kind of housing. I am not sure what he exactly meant. If you find anything out please let me know.

I also heard that those ladies were bad seeds. Me and my friend did have some dealings with them in a bar in town and, to say the least they were a bit on the mean side to us. I heard that they controlled what got done and who was allowed to help. My buddy tried to help with one of the parades there and he said they were really mean and made fun of him and another lady that wanted to help. I don't know, bro, but that might be a good thing, them getting dumped. Just my expereince.

Did you have any delaings with them? just wondering.

Thanks for keeping us updated on the town. Keep up the good work.

As i sit here and read weekly all the happenings that people post on here it saddens me to look at what Trafford has become. I grew up in this town and I was always proud to say where i came from. I came from a town that wasn’t littered with trash and houses uncared for. Trafford was always a well maintained community. Trafford people were proud people. People could walk the streets at night and know everyone that they came in contact with. Not have to wonder if they may have walked up on someone that was in the mist of vandalizing another’s property. A town that knew the police officers by name and where they lived. A police department that didn’t harass the community with speeding tickets. I remember when all Charley had to do was wag his finger at you and you knew he meant you better slow it down. Our officers back then knew everyone and their kids. That alone kept the kids in check. We respected our neighbors. We shoveled snow for our elderly and didn’t expect anything in return. Not to say that we didn’t make some extra cash shoveling snow or cutting grass or doing odd jobs for people. But we also gained self pride and respect within ourselves knowing we did something good.. I felt good to help others. I grew up in a town that had paper boys and girls and we all did a good job at it. We looked after our elderly that way. When "Mrs. Smiths " papers stacked up we knew to notify someone that something might be wrong. We loved playground days and looked forward to going to Blue Dell pool. We loved all our candy stores. We loved walking with all our neighborhood kids to CCD on Monday nights. We had sled ridding on the middle school steps. . Swimming at the Bend. Fishing at the BY pond. Parking at the BY after dusk and having the police come to check on us and know it was OK to be there. Not out on the streets but in a safe place in OUR COMMUNITY. A community that had every kid in a baseball or softball uniform. Walking to their games in herds of green blue orange red etc etc colors. Gloves and bats in hand. A community that blocked of the street for its annual fireman’s fair. A community with the best display of fireworks around. A display that brought surrounding communities together. The 4th of July fair. A fair that had every organization in town with a booth for their cause. Ethnic foods, games, fireman’s water dunk. Fairs that had so many people in attendance that there was parking that had to be directed all over town. We used the middle school steps back then. We walked to school on them. We rode sleds there. We rode our bikes down the beaten path along the steps. We all walked to our ball games there. We utilized the tennis courts. OR we just played tennis ourselves hitting tennis balls off the side of the school building. We knew every inch of this town. We all had to be home by the sound of the Westinghouse whistle. Or at least on our block. It wasn’t out of the ordinary to hear your mother hollering out the front door for you. Because she knew you where with in an ear shot after that whistle. We played out doors all day. We used our tree filled empty lots as our playgrounds. There isn’t one kid that grew up in this town that don’t know how to make forts out of what ever we could find laying around. And people didn’t mind. We were not out vandalizing. We where being kids. Kids cant be kids in this town anymore. No one trusts anyone anymore. I think the kids feel that they are all marked for bad. When you don’t have anything for the kids to do your going to have trouble. We are taking away from the kids. Building town houses in what little tree lined property we have left isn’t going to save this town. Its taking away form it. We need to focus on what we love so much about our town and that’s what we grew up on. Why cant we give our future ( our kids ) what we had. I know we don’t have all the business, and yes the Westinghouse is gone but we cant blame everything on the Westinghouse. Our organizations are dwindling. People fighting within the community all the time. Nothing but fighting at the council meetings. Our kids hear what goes on in those meetings and learn from that. Do you want your kids to grow up hating people that are trying to create and better community. I could go on and on and those of you who know where im coming from with all this can add a lot more of what you remember about growing up YOUR TOWN. A town that you can can grow old in with fond memories. Don’t you want your children to post remarks about what they loved so much about HOME!.. With what’s happening in this town we are forcing people out. People that are the blood that makes the heart beat in this town are leaving. They are scared of what its becoming. I just want my town back. The town i call home!

I used to build my forts in the woods by the Trafford Sportsman club. I remember getting candy at Artie's or Harlichs. I'm with ya.

It's difficult not to disagree with some people who are just wildly out of control with power and seem to lost any bit of moral fiber they may have once had. Read the latest Penn Trafford Star under Real Estate Transactions. I couldn't tell you how many times in the past year that I find someone with the last name of "Bruno" under Trafford. I'm all about private property but how are these people buying up so much property so fast and why? Your house could be next. If they don't like the way it looks...they may just up and take it!

I like to reminice too. I remember pick-up football games at the middle school. Pick up baseball games in South Trafford.

Pretty soon our kids will have fond memories of traffic and a loud soccer stadium!

God Bless.

Thanks for the reply Kris. I didnt think anyone cared. The only ones that truley care are the ones that arnt giving up on this town. Our lil borrow has so much history. I dont understand why we arent more aimed at preserving what it was than tearing it down. Now i see their aiming at the spit n whitle (Annie's spring time bar). We do have alot of history in this town. Maybe council needs to pick up the centennial book to fully understand what part of history they are destroying. Sickins me! And as far as a soccer stadium??????????????? We aint a soccer town...Geeze....I look down over that bridge and can tell you vividly where every field, stand, scoreboard and even the oil holes where..why they dont put the fields back there is beyond me. Maybe i live to much in the past, but i loved growing up here. Its all very emotional to watch happin right under our noses. Some people really need to be assamed of themselves.

Now that is a well edemecated borrow resident!! Where, oh where did you learn to speak and write??? Me thinks you been in the bar too much. I think Annie put a curse on you! Somewhere, your grammar teacher is looking down at you and cringing....or better yet......assamed!

No reason to mock someone. That's exactly how the elitists in this country act. They always look down on the "little guy" and make sure you keep your boot heal on thier necks in order to steal votes. My mom sends me emails all the time just to check up on me. Her spelling definately isn't the greatest (in fact sometimes I need a Janet-English dictionary) but her words mean the world to me. One day, I'll miss those scrambled words...God willing not that soon. My point is this, you may disagree with someone on their opinion but instead of making rude remarks on their typing, try to engage in an adult conversation. When you resort to subtle remarks like that, it tells alot to many people on just what kind of person you are. Engage in the conversation intelligently or not at all.

All I remember was when Haymaker Village was all woods (bike trails) and that the old ball fields under the bridge still had that rickety old gray stand that stood there amongst the overgrown foilage.

Another thing is there are more people than you think that care about the borough as much as you and I do. Most people just need alittle encouragement to stand up and say something. I guess that's what I'm trying to do here. I'm hoping to get the "internet-savy" folks out there to start talking. Stand up and say what you feel.

I listen to Quinn sometimes in the morning. He said something interesting today as I was making my way through Franklin, PA and up to Erie (now I'm writing to you from Cleveland...I know...ick) but he said that government is crooked...especially at the local level.

I've said it before: don't let the local government get wrapped up in cronyism or nepotism. (If I spelled those wrong I'm sure I'll be corrected)

This is not a paid endorsement, but make sure you pick up the Penn Trafford Star tomorrow. Hopefully if I'm quoted correctly, there should be an interesting article on eminent domain there.

You are so right, I've couldn't of said it better lovemytown. As for the grammer comment, I see no problem with yours. This, out of the cellar, person needs to go back into the cellar, lol. I think the grammer used was that of an elemantary school kid, or a drunk! Go back in the dark bottom dweller, you have no idea how stupid you sound. Do you proof read?

~Love and Light to Trafford~

Not that it's her fault but Heidi left out some of my quotes from the phone interview that we did the other day. I do admit I rambled on quite a bit and for an interviewer to digest all of that at once is kinda tough. I took short hand in high school and that was weird.

Anyhow, the main thing I wanted to have quoted was that the borough wants to tear down a tax revenue producing business to put in a parking lot and a tax revenue consuming facility. If you question it, you'll hear words like "grant money" floating around. I just want to remind the great people of this town that grant money comes from tax dollars. Some family from State College, Philadelphia, Sewickley, North Huntingdon, and so on...have paid for the current buildings that are now in place. And I know they are going to ask me: "Then how should we pay for it if you are so smart?!" That's a cop out. A way to distract you instead of coming up with other solutions first. Don't be fooled by their attempts to create "a better community." It's their vision, not ours. Don't let the worker tell the boss to clean up his office.

The borough's pet project over the past few years was getting itself out of the red. I get that. I completely agree with that. But why take actions that will reverse what they have been trying to do. And another thing is what about the other buildings here in town? What about Harlich's building where the roof was caving in? What about Rose's flower shop? What about the apartment complex across the street from the old Harlichs? What about the old Mellon bank building? People may think its a big joke and that nothing will ever happen to their building/business. Wise up folks. And if it comes down to it, I will stand up for your business as well. Economic development will save this borough, not chasing business out or tearing down their walls.

I really enjoyed the comment made about "if your house is pink..." Tell me, really? Who's to judge that? Who have we lent our powers to? Just remember citizens of Trafford: We're the boss. The people. Never trust government. Instead, be the government. Like I said, we are the boss and to have our "employees" arrogantly talk back to us like we are in pre-school is unacceptable. How would you deal with an insubordinate worker?

Last point. I mentioned before that there are certain people buying up alot of land in the borough over the past few years. Of course they would be concerned about property values! Most of this town belongs to them! Watch for upcoming Bed & Breakfasts to be built soon.

Kris

p.s. Still waiting for that cop car to be broken in and catch speeders driving through the Middle School zone. And speaking of Middle School...I'm sure there are alot of businesses on Cavit that would like to see a Youth Center instead of concentrating on just a "Senior Center" when you know you can get votes from the Seniors.

Just a few freebies for ya. Please take them and do well for the community.

Bravo! We were taking bets on how long it would be before you got back on here and "claimed" that you were mis-quoted. Spoken like a true politician Kris. And you say that you do not know what the future holds for your political career. C'mon Kris, you talk to us like we are blind. It is you that scares us!! I know it is hard for you to believe, but it is true. How can anyone take you seriously, when you blamed me for "mocking" that last scholar for their awful spelling, when what they babbled made no sense. Their first posting was well written, the second one, well we will have to agree to disagree on how well that was written. Maybe it made sense to you, but not to the rest of us, who exactly lives in a borrow or what exactly is assamed?

And you, you said that I "mocked" someone? What about you? You get on here and run down and cut up anyone that does not think like you. Don't get me wrong, I do not agree 100% with the elected officials, but what you are doing sure sounds like the pot calling the kettle black, don't you think Kris, BE HONEST!

Obviously you are in the "know" on all things Trafford so why don't you tell the good people of the town what boards and volunteer groups you belong to in helping to better the town. So now is your time to brag, tell us all of them, I am sure there is a long list so don't leave any out. Honestly, I don't know what you do to help the town, neither does anyone else. Please tell me and us so we can all understand where you coming from.

One last thing, Kris, When are you going to come into realitly of 2008? This is not the 1970's, anymore. Let me tell you a little secret, nobody cares about you buying penny candy. You sound like the village idiot when you ramble about that and then go on in the next paragraph to attack other people. Let it go Kris, take a deep breath.

Just curious, have you ever sat down and actually talked to any of the elected people (and their spouses and children) in the town that you are tearing apart and slandering? If not, why not? I am not sticking up for them but as you say, Kris, anyone can hide behind a fake name on the web, so it is also easy for YOU to get on here and spin your web of lunacy, craziness and garbage. Many of us in town see that YOU are trying to divide and hurt the town.

Why don't you practice what you preach, Kris!!

I serve on the best board or committee in town! I'm a citizen.

And I got you to come on here and post some ideas. Not bad.

Have a great weekend. Can't wait until this weather breaks!

I don't know, bro, but we might want to take this show on the road, look at the number of views we got goin so far! Could be money in the bank. What do ya say?

We just need to get the lurkers watching all this to start chiming in!! You know want to!!

Goin out for a beer tonight, Ya know, soak up the wild life!!!

The way I look at it is this: You may disagree to agree or whatever it is...but look how people get involved! That was my intent from the beginning. I want more people to read what I say and hear what others have to say on here so that there is an open conversation whereas the great people of Trafford may educate themselves on where the folks of the borough stand. To summarize it...this gives the people an opportunity to learn about the issues that concern our community through the opinions of their neighbors.

On an A.D.D. note - just saw a preview of Iron Man. I think I'll miss that movie.

By the way, I'm writing this from Elkins, WV. It's actually a decent town. I was in Bluefield last night and Virginia this morning. The grass is green here and the trees are beginning to bud. Hopefully it spreads up home.
