Gateway staffers win Golden Quill Awards
Gateway Newspapers won three Golden Quill Awards for journalistic excellence Monday night at the Hilton Pittsburgh in the 44th annual competition sponsored by The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania.
Alan Wallace, editor, Times Express, won in the editorial category for non-daily newspapers.
Zandy Dudiak, feature writer, Times Express, received the award in the enterprise/investigative series category for "Becoming American."
Other Trib Total Media publications also took home awards. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review won six Golden Quills. Another 13 staffers from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Tribune-Review in Greensburg and Valley News Dispatch were finalists in the competition.
Rossilynne Skena of Trafford, a sophomore at Penn State and campus editor of the Daily Collegian, won the Press Club's $5,000 scholarship for outstanding collegiate journalism. She interned at Gateway Newspapers and was editor-in-chief of The Warrior at Penn-Trafford High School.
