P-T Palomino earns three key wins

Penn-Trafford Palomino baseball got back over the .500 mark during the past week after posting three wins in four games.

P-T earned victories over Washington, Peters and RBI Redwings to improve to 4-3 this summer.

On June 18, P-T fell behind unbeaten Washington, 7-0, early on, but rebounded in the final three innings to pull off the 10-7 win.

Paced by a Sam Weightman grand slam in the top of the seventh, P-T took advantage of several Red-wings walks and errors to earn the win for Aaron McGee, who relieved starter Evan James.

Nate Furhman added a key sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to keep a rally going.

"It was a really good game," coach Frank Pecora said. "McGee totally shut them down the last four innings. We kept putting the ball in play. They made a few mistakes. We just took advantage of the opportunities when they came up."

On Saturday, P-T's winning ways continued with an 8-6 triumph over Peters Township. It was another come-from-behind affair as Penn-Trafford took the lead in the bottom of the sixth and held on. Dom Gibbons, who started on the mound for P-T, hit a three-run triple in the sixth to put the home team in front for good.

Carlin Crombie earned the win in relief, and James Contrella finished off the seventh inning for the save.

"It was another emotional come-from-behind win," the coach said.

P-T also took part in a doubleheader on Sunday against RBI Redwings, a team that came into the game 11-1.

In the first game, P-T got a solid three innings from Erik Van Kirk before he was relieved on the mound by James, who continued to shut down the Redwings' bats.

Weightman homered in the victory to lead Penn-Trafford at the plate, and Furhman added a single to right field to drive in two runs.

The second game of the doubleheader didn't go as well for P-T, as it fell, 15-5. Contrella took the loss. Offensively, Crombie was on base all seven plate appearances in the doubleheader.
