P-T tennis falls to Peters in first round

The year of firsts continued for Penn-Trafford boys tennis last week as the Warriors competed in the WPIAL championships for the first time in team history.

It also was the first season in which a singles player and doubles unit advanced to the WPIAL Class AAA tournament.

The Warriors were defeated in the first round of the WPIAL Class AAA tournament on Tuesday by Peters Township, 5-0.

The loss marked the end of a season in which P-T finished the section schedule 9-3 and in second place under first-year head coach Linda Michaux.

"It was a very rewarding experience because the kids learned a lot," Michaux said. "It's a good feeling for them to do so well."

Competing Tuesday for the Warriors in singles were Matt Hudak, John Colley and C.J. Price. Playing doubles were the tandems of Corey Miscevics and Adam Giug-liano and Derrick Hobbins and Anthony Bockowski.

"We did well to get there. I'm proud of the team. Peters is the third seed in the WPIAL. Once you get up to that next level, it always gets tougher and tougher," the coach said.

"For our first time getting to the WPIAL championship, I believe that the boys had an outstanding season. I'm very proud of them."

Doubles tournament

The doubles tandem of Hudak and Colley was defeated in the first round last week at the WPIAL Class AAA doubles tournament.

The duo fell, 10-1, to Doug Subosits and Andrew Nixon from Peters Township.
