The Penn-Trafford community can come together this Memorial Day to celebrate those in and retired from the military.

The Penn-Trafford chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of Gifted Education will hold a Memorial Day celebration May 27 in the Penn-Trafford High School gym at 7:30 p.m.

There will be refreshments and a performance by the Penn-Trafford Community Band at 7.

Veterans and winners of the "What Freedom Means to Me" essay contest will be honored at the event.

Guest speakers include Army Col. Regis Cardiff of Trafford, who was the 2nd Brigade Combat Team commander, 28th Infantry.

The 1-110th Infantry Pennsylvania National Guard, Con-gressman Tim Murphy (R-18) and state Sen. Bob Regola (R-39) also will attend.

Cardiff will speak about living a life of excellence.

Murphy will present the district with an American flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol, and Regola will preset the awards for the essay contest, which was open to all students in the district.
